It’s Windows all the way for me, including on my phone. No matter what though, the pile of garbage known as Linux will never be an option. Oh yeah, Windows 10 IS more secure than 7 and 8.1. The only difference is that now they tell you about it. All versions of Windows (and other OS’s) do much the same stuff. I may eventually give in and go to 10 which won’t be a disaster. The “spyware” comments are pure paranoia. Since the graphics card in the laptop does not support DX 12, I see no reason to upgrade that machine and won’t if I can possibly avoid it. Every PC I have ever bought was purchased for gaming and the only time I buy new is when my present machine can’t play a new game. My primary reason in getting 10 was the feature of Direct X 12 which will greatly improve the gaming experience. My laptop however, is still running Win 7 and I don’t plan on upgrading it. Windows 10 is an awesome OS (better than 7 in every way except the UI which can be easily changed) and I upgraded my 8.1 machine to it ASAP. Anything offered other than security updates during this “Extended Support” phase should be treated with extreme caution. Windows 7 is in “Extended Support”, so once you go through the bulk of the updates, it’s only security updates after that. Just turn auto-updates off, and manually check each update. Just my thoughts, and mainly to let you know if you format and never install the spyware updates to begin with, you won’t have to deal with all those third-party apps. It’s basically like each desktop is a potential Virtual Machine, but even when not a VM, it’s isolated from other desktops similar to how the “Run as Admin” pop-up on Windows works (it runs in it’s own secure part of the RAM to ask you). 8/8.1 can be managed, but again, why bother when Windows 7 only requires I never install the spyware updates to begin with? You should look into the OS called Qubes. I see no reason to upgrade from 7, other than DirectX, but for that there is Virtual Machines (Win10 in a VM, ONLY for the required games).
